Farmhouses

umbriaWhy Umbria?

Umbria is situated in the heart of the Italian peninsula, halfway between Rome and Florence. With its hill-top towns and ancient castles, sunflower fields and olive groves, rich in history, art and culture. Its cuisine and wines compete with those of its neighbours Tuscany and Lazio, and its beauty, second to none, has earned it the title “The Green Heart of Italy”.

There are more than 50 farmhouses, to choose from, all carefully selected varying in size and location. The beauty of the country side surrounding these properties is spectacular and the medieval villages are only minutes away from each place offering good restaurants, shopping and beautiful historical sights.  Such as:  Assisi, Orvieto, Perugia, Gubbio, Amelia, Todi and the Trasimeno Lake area.  Each of the accommodation units in the farmhouses are completely furnished and feature fully equipped kitchens, most include a fireplace and many recreational amenities from which to choose such as outdoor pool (summer), tennis court, Horse riding etc. Renting a farmhouse in Umbria is an unforgettable moment to treasure for a long time.

Il Borghetto Francescano ~ Umbria (Petrignano, Assisi)
7 Bedrooms & 7 Bathrooms ( Sleeps 16) ~ Independent house with private pool
From €1,350 per week
Il Borghetto Francescano is a wonderful large farmhouse, ideal for family reunions or groups of friends. Not only does it benefit from a superb location, close to the breathtaking town of Assisi, with views across the valley, it is a fine example of an Umbrian property thoughtfully restored to modern day standards yet losing nothing of the charm of days gone by.
Dating back to 1790, this rambling fattoria is built of warm coloured stone, complete with dark wood shutters and the essential upper floor loggia. Accessed from the covered loggia, the bedrooms are on different levels and benefit from fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. They are individually furnished with handmade wooden furniture, painted headboards and unusual artwork by a local 'artigiano' in Perugia. The numerous shower rooms and kitchen/dining areas throughout the house also mean a number of sleeping and living options.
The slope linking the house to the pool area has been planted with lavender and carefully selected shrubs and flowers to add perfume and colour.  A spacious property, with large grounds, mature trees and areas of lawn. From both the sun terrace and pool, there are extensive views over the fields and, to the left up on the hillside of olive groves, the medieval village of Sterpeto. The nearest restaurant is only 600m away, and for basic amenities, the village of Petrignano is 5 minutes by car. Umbria has a wealth of pretty, unspoilt towns to discover. Assisi (14km) and Perugia (18km) are well known but make sure to set some time aside to visit Bettona, Montefalco, Todi and Spoleto, perfect examples of traditional hilltop towns. Walkers and nature lovers will appreciate the beautiful nature reserve of the Monte Subasio National Park close by, with its wide choice of walking trails through the forests that teem with wildlife and flowers.
